How Often Should You See a Chiropractor?
2026-09-14 5 min read · Reviewed by Dr. Gregory Martin
There is no single, universal schedule for chiropractic visits. How often someone sees a chiropractor depends on the condition being treated, how long it has been going on, how severe it is, and how the person responds to care. Researchers have noted that there is no universal standard for the frequency and duration of spinal manipulative treatment, because care is individualized.
That said, most plans follow a similar shape. During the first, relief-focused phase, visits are often more frequent, sometimes a couple of times a week for the first few weeks, to address acute discomfort and get you moving better. As symptoms improve, visits typically space out, and some patients later settle into less frequent check-ins to stay ahead of recurring problems.
Common guidance for acute low back pain, for example, is often two to three visits per week for the first couple of weeks, with the schedule tapering as function returns. Chronic conditions may start on a similar track but often transition to less frequent, ongoing care. The right schedule for you depends on your situation, and it should be explained to you, not sold to you.
That is exactly how Dr. Gregory Martin approaches it. At your first visit he explains what he finds and proposes a plan, including visit frequency and the reasoning behind it. If your schedule or budget cannot accommodate it, that is part of the conversation too. Frequency is adjusted based on how you actually respond, and you are always free to ask why a particular schedule is recommended and how progress will be measured.
The honest takeaway: no reputable office should push a fixed number of visits without explaining the purpose behind each phase of care. A good plan has a clear goal, a way to measure progress, and a path that changes as you improve.
